EDO STATE COMMISSIONER FOR ARTS, CULTURE AND TOURISM CONGRATULATES OSOSO PEOPLE ON THE CELEBRATION OF THE ITAKPO FESTIVAL
Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Uyi Oduwa Malaka, on behalf of His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, sent a congratulatory message to the good people of Ososo at home and in the diaspora on the occasion of the celebration of the Itakpo festival, an age grade festival celebrated every seven years, where young males graduate into adulthood and now eligible to make decisions. According to news from the Edo State Ministry for Art, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, the Honourable Commissioner stated as follows "As a State with great history and culture known across the globe, the Governor Godwin Obaseki led administration acknowledges the age grade initiation which is iconic to many tribes in Edo state with the indigenes of Ososo being no exception. It is gratifying to celebrate with the Ososo people who are indeed proud of their heritage". She also recognised the fact that through the historical voyage of Ososo people from Ogbe quarters in Benin City to their present abode, incursion of modernity in the culture of Edo people, “the Ososo people have held on to this age long heritage with pride”.
